Music Mondays

I got to spend the past two weeks on a paradise island and was planning on posting from there, but apparently paradise does not include functioning internet so here we go!

Coming back to everyday life after a perfect holiday is always challenging, especially when it's the contrast from tropical heaven to what's supposed to be spring, but in reality resembles more just nature showing off all the different shades of grey (we've literally had hail and rain since I came back).
But constantly living for the holidays, summers, weekends or whatever your thing is, is not really living to the fullest. I used to be that person, wasting too much time reminiscing how good something was or waiting for that break from the ordinary, missing out on all the beauty right in front of me. But it's the ordinary days that I get to make special by going after my dreams, taking risks and not letting go. Those are the days that make me who I am and mold me into the person I want to become.

Today I'm taking us back, because no one does it quite like Whitney. Even despite all the personal battles she walked through, she never ceased to bring heaven down to earth with her magical voice. She's been my inspiration from day one and I hope this song will be that for you too.

Ps. Stay tuned, new post coming up soon!

Overalls Love Music Mondays

Chunky chain, leather and overalls. My personal favourites for this spring and summer.

I've been a Nike's girl since high school and it's been fun to watch them become mainstream again. Seeing the big labels like Chanel coming out with hot kicks has been thrilling and I have a feeling that they're here to stay.

I've been sick with a cold for a week now. The plan was to blog this last week, but my head has been in another space and nothing remotely intelligent has come out of it. That's why we have a smash up today, Overalls Love Music Mondays (one day late, but I'll just use the sick card here one more time)!

Today I had a little incident with a neighbour. She was accusing me of some wrongdoings that I wasn't guilty of (laundry was the matter) and it really pissed me off. For a moment I was losing my temper, when my gracious husband kindly reminded of my own words; Choose love in every situation. It's always easier to use these big terms and talk about making this world better, than living it out, day by day. I'm a huge justice person and being wrongly blamed for something really pushes my buttons. Yes, there are moments for justice and figuring out who's right, but most of the time the best option is to let love do the talking.

While in the heat of the moment I was ready to curse that lady off, I chose to bless her instead (after my oh-so-wonderful husband calming me down). In thirty minutes I bumped into her again and was taken by surprise. She showered me with apologies. She had been in a hurry, stressed out and had misjudged the whole situation.

Looking at the world, it's easy to feel like evil has the upper hand. Wickedness seems to be taking over and the poison is too strong for anything to cure it. Bad and unfair things happen. But the truth is that love is much stronger. This might sound like another pep talk from your Facebook newsfeed, but I've seen love in action. People changed, situations turned around simply because instead of judgement someone chose to forgive, chose love. I'm daily presented with the option of what am I going to partner with and many times it's not an easy choice. It can be painful to forgive and withhold judgement from someone who "deserves it". It can be uncomfortable to show an act of kindness to a stranger in need. But I believe it's exactly those little things that plant the seed of change and eventually, turn this world into the beautiful planet it was created to be.

If you aren't familiar with Solange's productions yet, now is the time. Her fresh sound and killer style is a force to be reckoned with and this video will hopefully inspire you as much as it did me.

Music Mondays

Last weekend was my birthday and even as a birthday monster (equivalent to bridezilla) with almost unrealistic expectations of how everything's supposed to play out, I was taken by how special the whole weekend ended up being. Surrounded by good music, delish food and beautiful people who I love, I had to take a moment and count my blessings. It's easy to be sucked into the negative currents of all the things going wrong at the moment. At times choosing to face life with a thankful heart requires a warriorlike attitude, but this weekend felt more like someone deliberately pointing out how I have been lavished with goodness and blessings. Staying rooted in thankfulness seems to shift focus to what really matters. It prepares the heart to actually receive the gift of life in all its glory.

No matter if the grass is sometimes greener on the other side, don't forget about the diamonds under your feet.
